Beyond the Handrail is an innovative and engaging online Process Safety Induction program for employees who work near live oil and gas process equipment.
The participant is taken on a guided virtual walk around an oil and gas facility where the main equipment types and their function are explained. The non-technical commentary combined with clear visuals provides a realistic plant access experience.
- Starting with the personal protective equipment and elimination of ignition sources, the tour moves out onto the process plant.
- Both the personal safety risks and the risks to plant integrity and production during work activities are addressed.
- A series of process and personal safety events are played out in short scenes to give the participant a clear understanding of the causes and consequences of these events.
- The vulnerability of safeguarding and control instrumentation components to disturbance and the impact on process safety is explored in detail.
- Inbuilt checkpoints test the participants understanding at regular intervals.
